Comparisons Between the Different Types of Promotions

Within the WineDirect Ecommerce Admin panel, 3 types of promotions are available for users to create:

1. Automatic Promoitions
2. Coupon Promotions
3. Coupon Codes

Key Comparisons

Automatic Promotions are for when a customer qualifies for a discount at checkout with no action required. 

Coupon Promotions are for when a customer needs to add a specific code at checkout, but they must also qualify for that discount based on set parameters defined when creating a Coupon Promotion.

Coupon Codes are for when a customer needs to add a specific code at checkout, but no qualifications are required. Coupon codes can have a limit on how many times they can be used and on which products they can be used.

All 3 types of promotions can be applied to products of a specific category, but only Coupon Promotions and Automatic Promotions can exclude individual products or full categories.

Shipping Discounts

WineDirect can only provide free shipping as a shipping discount. The ability to add a percentage or dollar amount off of shipping will be a feature released soon.

When providing a Free Shipping promotion to customers, it is important to remember the following:

1. If a Coupon Code provides free shipping, other shipping methods will still be provided to customers at checkout.
2. If a Coupon Promotion provides free shipping, no other shipping method will be available for customers at checkout.
