When ShipCompliant successfully connects with WineDirect, there are clear indications that orders are being checked for compliance or if an order has been declined due to a failed compliance check.
Successful Compliance Orders
If a product is successfully synced with WineDirect and then added to a customer's cart on the website, a 'Sales Tax' line item will appear in the order summary when they check out.
Suppose a user wishes to confirm that an order has met compliance and was successful. In that case, they can login to ShipCompliant > Settings > API Activity and review the API requests timelines or download the JSON file for a more detailed breakdown.
Once the order has been successfully processed, the Order Status in the WineDirect Orders List will appear as Awaiting Fulfillment.
California Redemption Value (CRV) Collection
IMPORTANT NOTE: The CRV only applies to orders where the shipping or pick-up location is in California
What is the California Redemption Value (CRV)?
CRV, or California Redemption Value, is a cash fee that consumers pay for each beverage container made from Aluminum, Plastic, or Glass. This program collects 5 cents for containers less than 24 ounces and 10 cents for containers over 24 ounces. This money is used to encourage the recycling of beverage containers and is administered by the California Department of Resources, Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle). Consumers can return their empty bottles and cans to certified recycling centers.
Different order totals in WineDirect and ShipCompliant
Order totals in WineDirect will show the CRV collected, but the CRV amount will not be visible within the ShipCompliant portal. An example of this would be an order shipped to California with 12 750mL glass wine bottles will have a $1.20 higher order value in WineDirect than what is shown in ShipCompliant.
As the adaptation of the CRV in ecommerce continues, WineDirect will update users with further information regarding our partnership with ShipCompliant.
Unsuccessful Compliance Orders
In contrast to a successfully compliant order, if a product not synced with ShipCompliant is added to a cart, the order summary will show a line item of 'Fallback Tax Rate.'
This fallback tax rate will have been set up in the WineDirect onboarding process to ensure some taxation occurs. This ensures that a missed compliant product or a system outage does not hinder a customer's ability to checkout.
Like a successful complaint order, a user can login to ShipCompliant > Settings > API Activity to review the API requests timeline or download the JSON file for details of a failed compliance order.
Force Compliance
Suppose an order is declined due to a non-compliant product. In that case, a user can retroactively enter that product's profile and add the appropriate 'ShipCompliant Product Type' in the 'Pricing' section. Then, the user must sync the product to ShipCompliant from the product list.
Once the product is synced, the user can click the 'Declined' order in the Order List in WineDirect to open the Order Details. An 'ACTIONS' button is at the top right of the Order Details page. Once clicked, a 'Force Compliance' option will reprocess the order and capture funds if the ShipCompliant check is successful.
