Like most online subscriptions, members of your wine club initially provide their credit card to be charged for multiple ongoing deliveries. These agreements are referred to as automatic renewal under California’s state law.
If you deliver automatic renewal orders to a single person in California, your winery must comply with the California Automatic Purchase Renewal Law (CARL).
To help with this process, you can add terms and conditions in the General Information section of your clubs.
Enabling CARL Terms & Conditions
- In the Admin Panel, click Settings > Website Settings > Store. Scroll to the General tab and enable the California Auto Renew Terms checkbox.
Adding CARL Terms & Conditions
- In the Admin Panel, click Store > Clubs > Club List. Select a club that is shipping to California.
- Under General Information, click Edit.
- Enter the text for your agreement under California Auto Renew Terms.
- Click Save.
Once you’ve entered an agreement text, all club members from California who sign up for your club must agree to the terms to subscribe. Every time a customer agrees to the CARL terms, we’ll record the date, time, source, and specific terms agreed to, which can be displayed using filters in Club Reporting.
