Article summary

What is a "pixel tag'?

The Facebook pixel is a piece of code that you place on your website. This code will collect data that helps you track conversions from Facebook ads, optimize ads, build targeted audiences for future ads and remarket to people who have already taken some kind of action on your website. If you plan on using Facebook Ads, you should install the facebook pixel on your ecommerce website.

How to install Facebook pixel?

Considering WineDirect's system, the best practice is to use Google Tag Manager (GTM) to include google analytics and/or facebook pixel tracking codes to your website. In the past, all of these tracking codes had to be hard-coded, usually by a web developer, on each page of a website. Having hundreds of different codes, in different pages, is very difficult when it comes to maintaining/updating them. But Google Tag Manager solves this problem because all your tags are stored in one place – your GTM account.

There are many steps to creating the ideal setup. Most of the steps are connected to creating the necessary accounts on Google and Facebook.

Here is a list with all the guides to setup each account you will need:

  1. Create a Google Tag Manager (GTM) account
  2. Create a Google Analytics 4 (GA4) account
  3. Setup your Google Analytics (GA4) inside your WineDirect Ecommerce platform
  4. Setup your Google Tag Manager (GTM) inside your WineDirect Ecommerce platform
  5. Integrate Facebook/Meta Pixel through Goggle Tag Manager (GTM).

Setting up Facebook Pixel and google tag manager is a great idea for future marketing initiatives. There are other things you will need to setup inside of google tag manager, like conversions, in order to better track the steps your customers take on your online store. We recommend that you look for external assistance from a specialist in marketing if these instructions seem complex. That way you can ensure that your setup is done correctly and it is working in your favour to produce more revenue in the future.
